@Sean
Actually "Sean" we are the ones paying you.

Outsourcing IT projects to offshore companies undermines the security of our country, sacrifices the long-term engineering advantage we hold over the rest of the world and slows the economic recovery of the United States.

What if our 911 emergency services or military were outsourced? Ugh.

i too am a charter customer. i switched to the opendns servers earlier this week as i too have realized charters dns servers are crap. the redirecting to their own search engine when you mistype an address, along with their recent 'enhancements' that track everywhere you go so you can be targeted with ads... and forcing people to keep a cookie to opt-out of these services if they dont want em? yeah, i opt out, of using those shitty charter dns servers.

I'm certainly not offended, I'm not entirely sure I was anchored fully with that re-rant of my own. I just say things. It's what I do.

Strangely I've done the opposite in political opinion, just the same. I've wavered typically "center" for a long, long time. Longer than I've been able to vote, even. Though as I live myself, I find myself slipping more right. Funny how that works, and for the same reasons you say your slippage has taken you: Idiocracy and ignorance. We're two seemingly intelligent people too... funny how that works.

For me, it has little to do with what anyone is "doing," it just happens that my personal opinions about the way things are, the way I've personally done them, and how well my idea of freedom fits into things about me on a daily basis. Truthfully, no political party has done anything remarkable in about 20-25 years. That's a whole generation. We're not getting smarter or richer (statistically), we're not getting more productive or setting any milestones. It ain't just one person's, party's, or system's fault. It's our own.

I'll keep commenting providing you keep writing. I don't have time to discuss politics, religion, philosophy and ethics any more than you do, I just type really fast. Heh. :) If you don't get around to it I'll not be offended.

I said a lot for not saying anything; mostly because this was a quick little 45-second rant, spurred by an idiotic MySpace bulletin from a seemingly uninformed individual (centering around 9/11 and Iraq obviously).

There are so many other things I could go into. I truly find myself slipping slightly Left the more and more I... live. Of course, maybe that's just because at this moment in time, the Right has done such a shoddy job that I want to distance myself from all of that idiocracy and ignorance.

I really wish I had time to discuss politics, religion, etc more, but I hardly have time to read, approve and reply to comments on my own blog (as you can see it's been 5 days).

Thanks for reading and commenting. =)

Cheers to your constitutional support and your economically-conservative viewpoint... though I must say an "economic liberal," is someone who is probably rich and can spend anything they want, just as a point of technicality..

...is it so surprising that we tried really, really hard as a government to make a win-win situation that failed miserably?

The United States Government is kind of like a really smart and complicated goth kid that no one seems to understand. This "kid," makes snap decisions based upon thousands of voices that he/she tries to reason with on a daily basis, and it's only when a real screw-up happens do we pay much attention to it cutting at its own arms in despair.

The "kid" this time decided we were going to make the world a better place for everyone by trashing a shitty dictator, perhaps securing some vested interest in our mainlining addiction (oil), and introducing a country to democracy.

Whoops, it's not taking so well. Idealists, politics, and religion, oh my. Bad intelligence. Bad planning. Resource expenditures. Now we're in some shit, and sadly, we've pissed off a few allies that might have helped us, but decided they themselves were over extended, and probably have to start pulling back. Now we're basically on our own. Great idea on paper (or in a crappy poem?), kid. Poor USA.

I absolutely agree our new economic lows are disgusting, Nick. The Federal Reserve is good at two things... making dollars (physically) and then cheapening them by dropping interest rates for people to borrow even more money they can't afford that doesn't... exist.... and.... anyone wonders why there's a problem?

Conservatives have largely half-assed too many plans throughout congress and the senate to complete anything they set out to do, while democrats are slinking around like ninjas trying to cut the last jugulars on any honest basis any committee or good legislation that sometimes really does pop up for our fine representatives. What this means is, no one trusts each other. That means retaliation. These are the same people collecting quarter-million dollar paychecks at our expense while they're having a slap-fight in the park, figuratively speaking. That's going to get a lot done. One hundred years of Congress and the Senate being exalted, privileged and opulent children of our system have now pit themselves together in battle like some orphanage war, and no one is winning. Especially us.

I hate talking about politics, Nick, but your blog deserved a few lines of my crazy ranting for one reason: You haven't said anything deemed face-palm worthiness. It's so easy for people to turn on the TV and get material to chew on like gristle, and you have millions of folks that think they're Anderson Cooper, Sean Hannity or Barbara Walters, or any of the other news mechanoids out there. You can shoot a TV, but not a human parrot, sadly.

In closing, I have never, and I shall never, watch an episode of American Idol. I'd go farther down that path, but another day. Another day.

Thanks for the positive huggi-ness about the book review! We do kindly enjoy that.

Also, there's some nifty links at the end of the stupid earthquake piece we did in case you're curious. USGS stuff and UNR seismo-lab stuff.

Considering besides gay rodeos, I work in part in a geological industry, there's a slim chance a 5.5+ - 6.8+ earthquake could happen. My guess though, is that it won't happen under Somersett.

Keep being rad, Nick
